Semi-automatic sniper rifle widely used in eastern Europe. It has gas press mechanism that is similar to AK series. High reliability, light weight, and high cost-performance make it a favored choice in today's arms market.
  — Weapon Description

The Zebra SE is a weapon for the Sniper class released in AVA first released during the November 2021 CBT Playtest.

Overview

The Dragunov SVD houses high damage (for a semi), very high stability, acceptable accuracy and mobility but low range. The Dragunov is a very good choice for people who decide to use a semi-auto sniper rifle instead of a bolt-action, but comes with low range and other drawbacks experienced by semi's like less peripheral vision and lowered mobility (maybe not mobility) when scoped in.

One of the biggest draws to the Dragunov is that it has arguably one of the best moveshots in the game with low overall recoil and a consistent 1 hit kill rate (within range), on top of its semi-auto nature. This is balanced by having a painfully low amount of ammo (10 in clip, 10 in reserve) and aforementioned low range. In addition, the recoil pattern of the gun goes from left to right in a zig-zag pattern, making recoil compensation during rapid fire impossible for longer range targets as you will either shoot to the left or right of the enemy depending on which alternation you get. Therefore it one has to wait for the recoil to fully settle before making his next shot to hit longer range enemies. The recoil is somewhat jerky when shooting in the second phase scope. Thus, it takes longer for the recoil to fully settle. However, the Dragunov SVD has extremely accurate no scope accuracy. You can easily kill enemies 5-10 meters away with a couple shots.

It should be noted that when zoomed once with the regular scope, recoil is substantially lower compared to when fully zoomed in. The Dragunov SVD has problems shooting at longer range due to this, since it is hard to send another round at the enemy if they tank the first shot.

Edit: it has been confirmed scoping ing does not affect movement speed, although moving will affect accuracy evident in the inaccuracy meter on the right when scoped in.

The Dragunov is unique in that its mods can greatly affect its playstyle, as it can either embrace its traditional sniper role with higher accuracy at the cost of mobility or become more rifle-like with an emphasis on stability and RoF. While outclassed by newer semi-automatics like the HK417 or the MGS90A1 Mod 0 in terms of ability to place follow up shots, this weapon remains effective for its price range.

Recommended Builds

Build 1

Sharp Shooter Barrel, Rapid Fire Mechanism, Weight Grip, Heavy Stock (optional)

Sight is up to personal preference.

(+2 Accuracy, +1 RoF + 3 Stability - 3 Mobility)

Build 2

Lightweight Barrel, Weight grip, Rapid-Fire Mechanism, Fast Reaction Stock.

Sight is up to personal preference, though the Quick Scope takes less time to view through the scope.

(-1 range, +3 Stability, -3 Mobility, +5 RoF)

NOTES: The Fast Reaction Stock's description claims to lower range, but it has no statistical change on range. However, after some testing this statement appears to be true though to what degree is uncertain.

Also, Some guns lose moveshot accuracy and gain standing/crouching accuracy when a stock is added. This seems to hold true to the Dragunov, though there is currently no video evidence of it.

Trivia

  • SVD stands for Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova, which translates to Dragunov's Sniper rifle. Therefore, having the word "Dragunov" in front of "SVD" is redundant, as the meaning would then be Dragunov Dragunov's Sniper rifle.
  • It is a common misconception that the SVD is the sniper rifle variant of the AK47. This is totally wrong, as the only similarties between the two are exterior. They feature completely different firing systems and use different caliber ammunition.
  • The variant of the SVD in game is the SVD-M. It features a modern polymer stock, unlike the wood stock and grip in the classic version.
